Cape Town – Wildlife lovers in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve in the North West Province had a front row seat to a once in a life-time sighting of lions seizing an opportunity to hunt a newborn giraffe.
But as wonderful as the sighting is, it is also a heartbreaking ordeal to witness. The mother of the giraffe tries her hardest to save her calf, but is unable to hold off the hungry lions in the end.
Even when the calf lies lifeless in the road, the giraffe mother can still be seen stomping her feet and grunting, chasing off the lions as they try to feed on the calf.
