Why You Should Give a Lion Couple Their Privacy

After showing interesting behavior, a big male lion was not happy with some nearby tourists, so he charged at them!

It started with a simple radio call: mating lions spotted near the H4-2. The location was close, so we headed out, expecting a peaceful sighting. What we found was anything but ordinary.

The lioness was stunning—her calm demeanor radiated quiet strength. But the male beside her was unmistakable. Known as “Mr. Grumpy,” one of the infamous S21 males, his reputation for short temper preceded him. His low growls and guttural moans filled the air, a primal soundtrack to the unfolding scene.

As the lioness wandered toward a white car parked nearby, Mr. Grumpy followed with unwavering focus. Witnessing their mating right there on the road was surreal—but the real drama was just beginning.

Without warning, Mr. Grumpy’s attention snapped to the vehicle. With a thunderous roar, he lunged at the car, sending hearts racing. The driver’s face froze in terror as the lion charged—thankfully, the windows were shut tight.

Not once, but twice, the massive cat hurled himself toward the car, growling with raw intensity. The sheer size of the lion made the vehicle look like a toy in comparison—a humbling reminder of nature’s scale and power.

Eventually, the lion settled down, and the car wisely backed away, leaving the pair to their private moment. The encounter left everyone breathless, a vivid reminder that in the wild, even love stories come with teeth.

Hayley Myburgh, a well known Nature Guide in Kruger, filmed this incredible interaction and shared it with Latest Sightings.
