While out on safari at Notten’s Bush Camp in the Sabi Sand Private Nature Reserve, South Africa 🇿🇦, we came across a pack of wild dog actively hunting and chasing a few impalas. The herd of impala split and the dogs chased one sub adult impala into the water hole.
Chaos ensued when at times the impala bumped into the hippo while trying to evade the strategic manouvering of the dogs who were doing a great job of tiring it out. The wild dog was alert to the presence of the hippo and kept a good distance from it at all times.
Once the Impala was caught and eaten, the interaction between the dogs and a lone spotted hyena that arrived on the scene was amazing to watch. The dogs were mindful of the bone-crushing power of the hyena’s jaws which can be devastatingly destructive!
After all the excitement ended and the dogs left, one may think nothing had happened at the dam as the relaxing quietness of the bush returned.
An incredible, fascinating, once in a lifetime viewing of what wild animals do naturally to survive and feed the family unit. Truly remarkable!
