This elephant trio came to the village at night in quest of food. Unfortunately, they slipped into a farm well during a pitch-black night. The poor farmers dug a well for farming purposes to irrigate their paddy crop. They don’t have the means to build a cement wall to enclose the well. This unsealed well put these defenseless elephants at peril.
Locals were alerted by the elephant’s terrified sounds, and they saw the helpless victims attempting to climb out of the well. They came together to help the elephants because their predicament moved them. Animal rescue workers from the department of wildlife conservation also arrived at the spot after hearing about the elephants’ situation.
They came to the conclusion that in order to assist the elephants in leaving the well, a sloped walkway needed to be built. An earth-digging backhoe was brought in to assist them. The driver was very careful in his work to avoid hitting the elephants with the vehicle. They were able to create an angled route after working for around two hours.
The mother elephant succeeded in climbing the slope first. But she hesitated to abandon her helpless baby in the water by himself. She continued to climb the well wall halfway up while making an effort to assist the birth of her unborn kid. She extended her trunk towards the little elephant and tried to pull him out.
The other elephant was also making an effort to leave. Her attempt succeeded after several failed ones. The mother elephant and her newborn calves were still in mortal combat for their lives. It would have been simple to save the mother elephant. She could have easily left thanks to the gradient in the trail that was created.
However, she was prepared to sacrifice herself in order to protect her child. She summoned all her physical strength and raised the child with her trunk. In the interval, she supported the infant with her leg to keep it from sliding back into the water. The mother elephant persisted until she was able to raise her calf from the well. She finally was able to take her infant out.
